OBJECTIVES

1.      To promote friendship and goodwill among its members.

2.      To promote a spirit of cooperation between amateur radio, long-, medium-, and short- wave listening and VHF/UHF listening enthusiasts for the betterment of all.

3.      To establish an association that will sponsor meetings of a technical and/or social nature for its members.

4.      To endeavors to maintain strong ties and an atmosphere of cooperation with other radio clubs or associations, be they national, provincial, or local and, although not mandatory, we highly recommend that our members maintain membership in these other radio clubs or associations.

5.      To promote the operating proficiency and technical excellence of its members.

6.      To be prepared to assist our community with Emergency Communications as needed in times of crisis.

7.      To promote education in the field of Amateur Radio.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACTIVITIES

1.      Mobile Communication Vehicle – Tri-County Amateur Radio Club acquired an older van and refurbished it, then installed many types of radio equipment such as HF, VHF, transceivers and a packet station.  After a couple of years of achieving our goal of building such a vehicle and using it at some community events, the cost of insurance and maintenance became too high for our small club and it was sold to allow Tri-County Amateur Radio Club to venture into other activities.

2.     Red Cross emergency communications – Some of our members are also members of the Moncton Red Cross “Disaster Response Team” and operate their emergency radio equipment as needed.

3.     Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue Group emergency communications and call-outs – For many years some our members operated Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue’s radio communications and administered their “call-out” system.

4.      New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) exercises and activities – Our members have always been a part of any EMO exercises in our area, and are prepared to assist the EMO with emergency communications whenever called upon.

5.      “Field Day” exercises –Our club members participate each year in the annual international Field Day exercises, in conjunction with other Amateur Radio Clubs, by operating a radio station.  This helps to keep our members ready for future emergencies, and trains new members in the art of radio communications.

6.      Club Amateur radio station – We built and maintained a club Amateur Radio station, when we had a Club House, consisting of HF, VHF, and UHF, plus a packet station, from which we were able to make contacts to many other stations in all parts of the world.

7.      “Work Bench” Saturdays – When we had a club house, our Work Bench was quite active as a regular “teaching aid” for our members and new Amateurs alike as they continued their electronics education.  Most Saturday mornings would see a large gathering of Amateurs listening, watching and participating as some of the “Old Timers” – VE1AJF, VE9SF, VE1BJM, and VE9TAG, to name a few – would guide the members through a repair job, modification, or building project.

8.      Basic and Advanced Amateur Radio Operator courses – The club conducted many Amateur Radio Operator qualifying courses and then our Industry Canada-certified “Delegated Examiners” tested the participants on their proficiency in both Basic and Advanced exams.  Those who passed were given the appropriate qualifying certificate by Industry Canada.

9.      Community event radio communications – Operators from Tri-County Amateur Radio Club and Moncton Area Amateur Radio Club assisted the Codiac RCMP with emergency communications and patrols during many community events.  Some of these events are the annual Halloween “Pumpkin Patrol”, and the Santa Clause Parade, the M.S. Run, plus many other events.

10.  Continuing education in emergency radio operators procedures – Members have attended some of the courses offered by the NS EMO group in Amherst, NS, and have passed on the information that they learned to other club members, the Red Cross (Moncton Branch - Communication Section), and Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue (Communication Section).

11.  Amateur Radio Repeaters – Members have rebuilt and relocated the VE9TCR (Moncton) VHF repeater, built and installed the VE9TCF (Fundy National Park) VHF repeater with a UHF link to VE9TCR (Moncton), rebuilt the VE9SHM (Moncton) UHF repeater, installed an IRLP node on the VE9TCR repeater, and also installed an APRS node in Moncton.

Since it’s beginning, Tri-County Amateur Radio Club Inc. has never lost sight of its principle interests of helping our community in times of need and to pass on our knowledge of the technical side of Amateur Radio.  We are always eager to assist any person who is interested in gaining an Amateur Radio Operator’s license and to aid those operators who wish to further their education in this field so that we can all “have fun and enjoy our hobby”.
