On February 2, an ice storm that moved through
the province early the day before created major power outages in
several areas of the province. Over 61,000 residents throughout
the province were without service. The City of Moncton activated
their Emergency Operations Center and was jointly operated by
the municipalities of Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe. The Moncton
Red Cross was asked to open and staff five reception centers
within the above regions and amateur radio operators were
dispatched in each center to ensure uninterrupted communication
between the centers and the Emergency Operation Center. On
February 6 the last two reception centers were closed and the
next day the Emergency Operation center suspended operations.
The following amateur radio operators
participated:
| VE9 OLA | VE9ATQ | VE9CMS | VE9CS |
| VE9DUF | VE9GDE | VE9MCD | VE9OK |
| VE1 QX | VE1VON | VE9 ORR |

Red Cross Disaster Services
The Canadian Red Cross depend on amateur radio operators to
provide emergency communication in time of disaster.
On the week of September 11th the Moncton area received several
unexpected visitors, the Red Cross was asked to help and provide
shelter for these individuals and local amateur radio operator
and club members proved again that when we are needed we are
always ready and able to help.
For several days the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV)
was manned 24 hours a day for the duration of the event.
